Frequently Asked Questions MRV | King Mini-Rotary Viscometer
- Clean the cells thoroughly. Inspect the rotor and make
sure that there are no defects on the surface.
- Make sure the MRV String is wound on the Rotors
smoothly with no overlaps.
- Make sure that the dry air/nitrogen is ON and there is
no ice on the Cells during testing.
- Try using the Manual Wheel and timing to determine if
the issue could be with the Automation Wheel setup. If manual counts are repeatable, see comments
below for automation wheel not functioning properly.
- Turn the instrument ON and the cooling function OFF. Set the controller to 90˚C for at least one hour to evaporate any moisture buildup at the bottom of the Block.
- Go to the calibration
screen in the Software. Perform a count check to verify if the wheel recognizes
the correct count (120). Contact Tannas

- Does the Wheel turn

- Is the red dot from the
laser sight “sharp” and focused on the underside of the wheel? If not, loosen the set screws on either side
of the Block and adjust the distance of the lens from the wheel to achieve a
“sharp” and focused dot. Recheck the
count using the calibration screen.
- Is the Automation Wheel
assembly seated firmly in the trolley rail and in the correct slot for the
selected Rotor? If not, firmly set it in the correct location.
- If receiving “phantom
counts” (i.e., the system starts counting before the key is released), try
setting the wheel at the same spot prior to each run. If the system is still
inconsistent, contact Tannas Technical Service for the procedure to adjust the
fiber optic count calibration setting.
- Remove excess vibrations
from other external equipment near the instrument.
- Is there excess vibration
