The value on the reference oil bottles is a target value that should be used in conjunction with the repeatability and reproducibility of the method. Please see the latest version of the ASTM D2272 method to determine the repeatability and reproducibility of the reference oil.
Note: Distilled or deionized water must be used in the samples and in the chamber.
When troubleshooting, we recommend running the longer running reference oil (i.e., QHR). If the results are not satisfactory, perform the following calibrations and answer the following questions to troubleshoot. Once completed, send the data and answers to Tannas Technical Service for assistance.
- Perform a Water Calibration
to verify temperature offset (Water Calibration Kit is available from Tannas
- Motor RPM’s should be 100
± 5 RPM’s.
- Ensure there is pure
oxygen connected to the instrument.
- Please confirm the Reference
Oils have not expired and have been stored at room temperature.
- Have any controller
settings been changed? The settings can
be verified by comparing to the factory settings provided in the Operations Manual.
- Magnetic Cups are fragile
and must be handled with care. If the Cup has been dropped or over-heated, it
may need to be replaced due to loss of magnetism.
- If the Quantum has been moved near a drafty
area, such as near a doorway, fume hood, or snorkel, it may cause the
instrument to run cooler and longer.
- Ensure the Chamber Ring is in good condition.
